Message from Ruth Rooney: Carer feedback needed

Message from Ruth Rooney, Edinburgh Carers Council Coordinator:

Hello,

I am contacting you to ask for your support in relation to the advocacy service at Edinburgh Carers Council.

As a carer you may have had advocacy help from our team or you may take part in our Carers Forum or carer groups. We hope you have found these useful and we are currently looking at the future and our funding for the future. The Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership has begun to review the independent advocacy services in Edinburgh, including our own. This is because the existing funding will come to an end in February 2022 and we must bid again for funding. Edinburgh Carers Council will of course want to continue to be there for carers, as the only independent carer advocacy service in Edinburgh.

I am part of the review and a member of the Coproduction Group and will update carers and members as the review moves forward. From January to the end of March 2021 the review is seeking the views and experiences of carers. This is where I am asking for your help.

I realise during these difficult times with Covid restrictions that carers are under extreme stress in their role and that taking part in the review might not be top of your list. The timing, therefore, is not ideal but these are the only three months we have to secure our funding through your input.

Both the above methods ask for your experience of advocacy, what has worked well and not so well. If you would prefer to just write something instead to submit, we would really appreciate it. The more feedback from carers we have, the more evidence about the value of carer advocacy we can put to the review. In February there will be the opportunity for you to contribute through a telephone interview carried out by our staff team. More details will be sent nearer the time, but if you might be interested please let me or another member of the team know.
